If you're trying to cover up bad skin with quite a few layers of thick make up, ask yourself why? If your skin was good to start with, wouldn't the process be a whole lot easier? Let's take you back to my younger years when I used to swear by make up wipes and caking on my foundation and concealer to hide my bad skin; I never really thought about why my skin was so dull, spotty and uneven. Sometimes I would even go to the lengths of using a baby wipe (I know, don't even go there) I take my make up off and "clean my face".
Some lessons I've learnt and the steps I've taken:
~ Have a solid skincare routine in place (cleanse, tone, eye cream, serum, moisturise) give or take a few steps depending on you and your needs. I'm currently using brands like Oskia, Clarins, Una Brennan and Pixi.
~ Double cleansing is a good thing (I do this by firstly taking my make up off with micellar water and then with my cleanser) and I only do this in the evenings. Nivea Micellar water, followed by Oskia or Elemis cleansers.
~ Don't be afraid of acid toners (as they won't burn your face off) but do your research into what type of acid you need for your skin. The Clearasil and Pixi Glow Tonic are my favourite but in search of another to spice up my routine.
~ Say goodbye to face wipes (because they are honestly not good for your skin) smearing makeup around the skin instead of taking it off. They can also be soaked in chemicals that make makeup removal quick and easy, but aren't good for your skin at all
~ Invest in a good serum (as this is where the good stuff happens) being light weight it soaks into the skin quickly, allowing the kick ass ingredients to do their thing. But like acid toners you need to do some research into what active ingredients would be good for your skin. A couple of serums I enjoy using for my skin are Estee Lauder, Una Brennan and Pixi.
So, these are a few steps I've taken over the last handful of years that have really helped my skin get in a better condition, and allow me to move away from completely relying on make up. I could easily do more to help my skin, but I think it's good to do things at a nice slow pace so you really get to understand your skins activity and whether or not something works or not.
Have you been inspired to sort your skincare routine out?

I'm a huge fan of rocking a bold lip, however when somethings so easy to apply and makes my lips look bigger with a hint of colour, that aren't too sticky like a regular lipgloss; I'm sold. The Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip perfectors have been around for a while and are pretty good with adding shades to their range and aren't your regular lipgloss boasting to make your lips look plump and moisturised.
They look good on their own as a light wash of colour or on top of a lipstick or pencil. Easy to apply they're a perfect addition to your handbag beauty kit. As much as we all love a matte lip (Mac Ruby Woo being a solid favourite of mine) sometimes, when we know were going to be eating, and can't be bothered with the faff something sheer and fuss free is the answer.
My newest addition is #8 plum shimmer which has really tickled my lip fancy and stand out from the range as being the only dark berry colour they sell. A few times I've applied it over the top of Mac Beet lip pencil which looks fabulous.
If you're like me and not a real fan of the standard lipgloss look you used to sport on the regular as a young teen then please give these a go as they'll change you lip routine forever. You'll always have one in your bag and swear by them. Have fun picking a shade as they're all beautiful!

We've all got those places where we head to for those day to day essentials, from which we go back time and time again as we know they'll serve us well. My place for underwear has always been M&S just because I knew I'd get something of good quality. Since attending a private Next lingerie event, my thoughts have now changed.
A cheeky massage before being measured for my perfect bra was a must, and the massage angels were amazing. Before our fitting we had a chat about Nexts mission statement and given some shocking facts like, did you know 80% of women wear the wrong size bra? Say what?! I couldn't believe that statistic. Next want to raise the awareness of their lingerie range and be as popular as their rival M&S. With all its bras made with brushed cups and luxury fabrics, I have faith that Next will sooner rather than later be recognised for their undergarments as much as their clothing.
We were taken into the changing rooms one at a time along with a bra fitting trained specialist to be fitted into a bra that is our correct size. Of course I was wearing the wrong size, a whole 2 inches and one cup size wrong. All Next bra styles have a name to make it easy for us ladies to find several bras in the same style which is a simple yet a fantastic idea. I walked around for ages having a real look at all of the variety until I came across a bra that just for me, stole the show.
I tend to go for black underwear (black everything really) so as soon as this black lace number with the fancy elastic straps across the breast area was brought to my attention, i knew it had to be mine. Beautiful detailing and so comfortable, I just wish they did it in several colours (by which I mean nude and white, and maybe grey).
Such a lovely event and with focus on such an important topic, I highly advise you all to have a mooch around the Next lingerie section. You won't regret it!
