Back to school make up

Half term done and dusted we are now getting back to school for the final term of the academic year. It's a long one and hopefully the weather will be warming up (she hopes) and no doubt will be super busy. With these points in mind I'll need to re-think my make up look, from half term (full on make up) to back to natural school make up which is teacher or student friendly.

It wasn't long ago that I did a natural make up look however have a couple of new products that I've brought into this look. My base switches between just using the Collection concealer to the Bourjois Healthy mix depending on what my skin was like. Both are very long lasting and blend into the skin so well it's like they become untraceable. As I often teach active lessons I don't use powder on a daily basis but if I do I'm still using and loving the Bourjois Healthy Balance . I use it for the days when I'm just in the classroom or have meetings after school as it really does lock your make up in. Having just bought a new Soap and Glory Archery I am totally loving using a fresh one however am still on the look out for something new along the same line (suggestions please). My mascara of choice will definitely be the Maybelline False Lash effect . Yes I'm a They're Real girl however this Maybelline one is perfect for school, natural and long lashes which last all day but is easy to take off at the end of the day (unlike the benefit one). I need this after a long day at school, a quick hair in top knot wipe make up off time. This would be it on a day to day thing and would flit between a few different lip balms. I'm quite boring with lip care as I tend to stick by the Blistex Relief Cream as it does the perfect job of smoothing out the skin on my lips and helps to prevent cold sores and what not.

What will you be wearing back to school or college as a natural look? Are you a fan of natural make up looks and have products you swear by?

What I've been loving in May

This monthly favourites is a nice varied one in which mostly contains new products. It's been a busy month where my social life seems to have rocketed some what. When planning this post I had quite a long list of favourites but wanted to keep it a small cluster. Enjoy!

Show- Finishing spray-
First of all we must address the gorgeous packaging. How luxurious and sleek! The lid is weighty and the bottle is a nice size to hold comfortably because sometime you get a large canister and can't hold it right and sprays here there and everywhere (I say hoping other people do it too). This finishing spray is great as it's build able. You can have a very light hold all the way through to super hold (doesn't move in the mind). The smell, unlike others is lovely and almost slightly fruity. Yes it's quite pricy, but honestly so worth it for something that doesn't choke you after spraying the tiniest amount.

Skin Pep- Dark Circle Eraser-
I didn't think I would become dependant on an eye cream at 27 years old however I might have to put in an order for some back ups. I've tried quite a few different dark circle creams, but none that I've seen and felt a difference like I have with this one. I won't go on as I've already done a post where I've gone in depth HERE

Mac Lip Liners- Soar and Beet-
This month has mostly consisted of lip liners, and these two have been my favourites out of the lot purely because of the shades. Beet is such a gorgeous berry red shade and Soar is a nude pink shade. The Mac liners are so soft and really do glide along the lips with ease and last near enough all day (with a couple of fill stops). If your a fan of long lasting lip products you most certainly need to check these out.

Clarins Gentle Eye Make Up Remover-
I've recently been using the Benefit They're Real mascara which can be a bit of a pain to get off at the end of the day so needs something tough to remove it. This Clarins remover is tough and does eventually get it all off. Even though it's the best eye make up remover I have I still need to use a few cotton pads, but is hands down the best eye remover I know.

Acqua di Parma- Moagnolia Nobile- Even though I posted my spring scents the other day I have been using this everyday as a back up perfume I've carried around in my bag everyday. I had a few and am down to my last one. It's a lovely strong floral scent that seriously lasts a long time. As well as being a floral scent, it contains some citrus notes which you can really get a wiff of once its settled on the skin. Yes it's super pricey so something that would be a special birthday present. Try and grab some samples!

What are your favourite products from the month of May?

Spring scents

I go through so many different phases when it comes to perfumes, and right now I'm pretty much obsessed with two that I'm using on rotation. Both I've had for quite a while now but as I said I go through phases and before I started using these again from the beginning of May, I hadn't used these since summer last year. Now before I begin I;m really not good at describing smells so to be warned!

Yves Saint Laurent- Parisienne
I love this perfume so much, and every time I smell it I melt a little inside. Its so girlie and powerful. You can smell a bit of a floral tone and also a bit of a fruity one. I wear this both daytime and evening and get so many compliments when I wear this. I'm now down to my last few wears so they are being saved under lock and key.

YSL describe this as a woody floral scent.

Estee Lauder- Modern Muse
I'm pretty sure I got this last Christmas and have treasured it since. Makes me feel like a real lady when I wear this (as I would say a mature scent). It contains a lot of different smells including exotic mandarin, honeysuckle nectar and amber wood. The list on the Estee Lauder website contains

Estee Lauder describe this as a lush floral woody scent.

Do you wear certain scents this time of year?

Skin Pep - Dark Circle Eraser

Not long ago I addressed the issue of dark circles, and how I can get extremely dark ones depending on the amount of sleep I've had. I have quite a few products that claim to help reduce the problem however, have recently been testing one out that I'm actually really excited about and had to share with you.

Skin Pep* is a premium professional aesthetic skincare brand with lots of products under their belt along with being a finalist for the beauty shortlist awards 2015. I was kindly sent their Dark Circle eraser and have been using it for just under a month now. The packaging is nice and has a very high end look to it, sleek and compact. The applicator is great and means you can apply it directly to the skin instead of using your finger.

So........ Being paraben free, mineral oil free, artificial dye free and perfume free its packed of good things. Containing powerful antioxidants and vitamins this cream helps to maximise collagen levels and elasticity in the effected area. I can honestly say that I would recommend this to everyone! I started to see changes within just a few days and now having used it for just under 4 weeks I am more than happy with how the area around my eyes looks. When I've just woken up it looks like I've already started to correct under my eyes. My skin is brighter, and some fine lines seem to have plumped up a bit. I will be using this up and also looking into getting more as I'm not sure how I could stop using it. Honestly a great eye cream.

Photo taken just under a month after starting Skin pep, first thing in the morning with no make up and natural light.

Do you suffer with dark circles? What do you do to prevent them?

No heat loose curls/waves

Bleached hair takes a lot of effort to keep it in nice condition, so I only use heat when I really need to (mostly in the form of a hairdryer). I do own some GHD straighteners however never use them unless I need to touch up my hair for a special occasion. I do this to my hair on a weekly basis to give it a bit of texture and movement and is very easy to do.

Step one: you need a hair band that isn't too tight. I use these curly plastic ones I have from Japan but have heard on the grapevine that Primark have some too. They are great as they don't dent or kink your hair in any way.

Step two: gather your hair into a high pony and twist it until you can't twist anymore.

Step three: twist it round into a bun on the top of your head.

Step four: secure with the hair band and if you want it really secure use a bobbi pin or two.

Step five: when your wake take it out and give a little loosening with your fingers and tahdah!

Do you do this or something similar? Do you think you'll give it a go? Let me know, would love to hear your thoughts.

Matching eyes and lips

A few posts have gone by now where I've either mentioned a red lip or a red eye but haven't gone that step further to mention them together, until today. Is it a thing that people do? I remember when it was a taboo to match your make up in such a way, however feel that now we have more room to play around and try out things that back in the day were a no go.

When going for a red lip I've been choosing to prime my lips before starting my make up with the Models Own lip balm in Blackberry. It's a balm however stays put as a bit of a stain and starts off your berry lip. Doing exactly what you need it to do its perfect before the real deal. Talking of real deal, the Mac lip pencil in Beet has rocketed to quite a well used product in my collection (having had to sharpen it 3 times already since I bought it). it's creamy, easy to apply and stays put through food and drink. If I'm feeling more of a deep red instead of berry I'm popping on the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Red Carpet. This again is a great stayer however takes slightly longer to apply because of how matte it is but is still gorgeous to wear.

Moving onto eyes I'm rotating between either Mac's Cranberry or Antiqued (both of which have featured on the blog before). Cranberry is the brighter of the two and really enjoy this on the eye alone with Beet as they have a real pop of colour about them. Antiqued I sometimes pop in the crease but alone looks great with the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick. I also like to wear the Maybelline cream shadow in Pomegranate which looks very similar to Antiqued on the lid however just a tad brighter.

Are you a matcher? Give it a go! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

* Watch out for a post a day next week while I'm on half term*

Wish list Wednesday: Beauty

I love a good list and the best kind of list in my eyes is a wish list of things you are currently swooning over. Last week I managed to add a few beauty items to my wish list and thought I would share them with you all.

Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Celluar Face Oil:

I'm a bit of a fan of facial oils and really like the sound of this one. Sunday Riley have a lot of coverage right now being featured everywhere for their genius blue over night oil. It's supposed to rejuvenate dull and life lacking skin. The list of nourishing ingredients is endless and will apparently help your skin to look luminous. Are you tempted? I know I am, but feel that justifying the price to Tony impossible.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel:

This has been on my wish list for a while now and still have bitten the bullet and bought it. I have quite a few different cleansers which I rotate however seem to always go back to my Liz Earl Cleanse and Polish. For that reason I am keen to find another that I love just as much. So many other bloggers use this and rave about it which makes me think 'What am I missing out on'.

Mac Lip Pencil in Soar :

I can't tell you how long I've wanted this lip pencil for, I just can't seem to get hold of it. Everyone tells me to order it online, but in all honesty I can't stand online shopping and would rather moan and wait for it (bad I know). As you probably are all aware it's Kylie Jenner's shade of choice so we all know what it looks like applied. The wear time, application and overall greatness of Mac Lip pencils are beyond this world and have a few already so am desperate to add this to my collection and get my Jenner lip on!

Charlotte Tilbury Cream Eyeshadow in Jean:

I recently saw Anna use a Charlotte Tilbury cream shadow in one of her videos and it looked stunning. She applied it so easily and the colour pay off was amazing. This got me intrigued as I've never got on with a cream shadow before. They tend to crease like mad on my eye lids and I just get stupidly annoyed by the end of the afternoon. This is a cream shadow I've not tried and I am more than willing to try and if it fails as least I've given it a shot. Charlotte Tilbury products are lovely and of good quality so I am hoping this will be the one for me, and getting a champagne shade means I'll get lots of wear of out it.

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base:

For a long time now I've been an Urban Decay Primer Potion gal and have never wanted to go elsewhere. Now I've run out I'm desperate to get something different to replace it. I've heard a lot of good things about this primer and having very stubborn eye lids I am very interested in giving this a go.

My most used make up brushes

Having a jar full of brushes on your desk to choose from is great however you will always go to the same ones day after day and just change it up every now and again. There are five brushes I always use every single day and only swap it up once every few weeks. What cult brushes can you spot?

Mac 217 Blending brush:
The perfect blending brush in my eyes. I've used this brush from the very beginning of my blogging journey (and could do with another) and is so versatile everyone should have one in their collection. Some people think they are bad at blending or just can't do it, but using this brush will do all the work for you.

Real Techniques Expert Face brush:
I used to be a Buffing brush kinda girl, however from the moment I first used this Expert Face brush back in November I fell head over heels. It gives a great full coverage look and buffs the product into the skin in a sort of dense fashion. You really need to work with the brush but the end effect is a well blended flawless look.

Body Shop Angled brush:
On days when I don't have time or can't be bothered to use the Soap and Glory Archery I use a Mac shadow and this brush to do my brows. This brush is just great as it allows you to get precise lines and fills the squarer part of your brows lovely. Definitely one to check out if you use shadow for your brows as its so easy to use and gives great results.

MAC 204SE:
My brows would not be as controlled as they are without this brush. The description on the website says its for controlling your lashes and separating them (na ah). I use it to give my brows a good brush through as I do them myself and don't trim the brow hairs. I also brush through them after applying my brow products to create a more natural brow look.

Do you favourite make up brushes you just love to use all the time?

Sunday round up - 13

It's been a strange week this week as it's mostly revolved around going into hospital for a day procedure (investigating into a long term health issue). On the plus side I've had some exciting things come through the post to play around with so in a couple of weeks time they will be up on the blog in detail. So, heres my week in pictures!

1: A 30th birthday- I teach Drama at a secondary school in Kent and work with some lovely people. It was my head of departments 30th birthday back at her family home in Maidenhead so myself and Tony had a little road trip up there to celebrate. We all had such a lovely time, great company, great food and drink, and most important of all, the birthday girl drank bottle after bottle of champagne.

2: Pic a Mix from Tesco- I can't manage eating a lot of artificial sugar because of all the issues I have with my diet and body, however before going on my pre hospital diet I was craving a 'Pick a Mix'. I persuaded Tony to go for the XL tub and filled it with all our favourite sweets. I only managed a hand full before my body told me to stop so I can slowly make my way through what's left.

3: *Black and White hair wax- I was kindly sent this wax a few weeks ago and myself and Tony have been giving it a whirl. Overall we both really enjoy using it and will continue to (more detail in the blog Post HERE ).

4: Injecting colour into my outfits- This picture was actually taken a couple of weeks ago when we had a lovely burst of sunshine and I was looking back at it on a dull and rainy day. The blazer was a steal from a New Look kids sale (age 14-15) and looks fab on sunny days to inject some colour into your outfit, which is a great for me as someone who lives in black, white and grey.

5: Smile there's wine- This was after two days on a boring, plain diet plan from the hospital and I was craving something with a flavour and for some odd reason was thinking about wine. I'm not a big drinker anymore anyway as I can't get away with much but a couple of glasses of wine will be on the cards next week for sure to celebrate May half term! (was thinking of doing a post a day again? Your thoughts).

6: Pre hospital drink- I won't go into detail but this pre procedure drink was vial. Enough said. However Pretty Little Liars is great and literally can't stop watching it.

7: *Skin Pep Dark Circle Eraser eye cream- The postman gave me a delightful package on Thursday which contained a very exciting eye cream. I've used it every night since receiving it and am still reviewing it as I want to use it for a while before sharing my thoughts. First impressions are good, and fellow dark circle sufferers watch this space.

8: Masque Bar Sheet mask- Have been loving these sheet masks that I picked up from Boots and this weekend I'm hoping to leave the house and purchase more of them (Post HERE). Have you tried these?

Have a lovely Sunday!

Masque Bar sheet masks

I've always been a lover of using masks whether that be heat, clay or gel. Sheet masks were on my last 'to try out' lists and was so excited to see these affordable ones in Boots the other week. This brand have two different sheet masks designed to help with the following areas; brightening and anti-wrinkle. I went with the brightening as I suffer with dark spots and high pigmentation areas.

The mask itself:

It was really nice to find out that this mask does't include the ingredient hydroquinone, which is a bleach often used to whiten skin so therefore this mask can be used on all skin tones. They come in a box of 3 and are individually packed so they are great to travel with.

What I thought:

I really enjoyed using these. I only have one left and want more (being on 3 for 2 right now is tempting) and want to try the other type of sheet mask too. I used the masks once a week for two weeks and could see a difference after the second mask. My skin looked more even toned and all of my dark areas were brighter.

These are a great, easy and affordable way to try out the sheet mask craze. Have a look on the Boots link above and see what ones you would try.

Happy hump day guys, thanks for stopping by !

Black and White hair wax

When I was contacted to try out this *Black and White hair wax I thought what better person than Tony to give this a go. Tony is always searching for a good wax that will hold his hair for the entire day or evening. He has very stubborn hair that's wavy and extremely thick so needs something that is tough and has a strong hold.

Tonys thoughts:

"It smells really good, better than most hair wax I've tried. There's nothing worse than using a hair product that doesn't smell good because you can smell it all through the day. The product itself feels quite oily in the hands and is very easy to warm up before applying to your hair. I found that the hold is firm and not strong and seems to drop after a few hours (probably not the best for ultra thick hair). I've tried brushing my hair at the end of the day and not washing it but with this product that is not an option and need to wash my hair after every use. Overall it's a nice hair wax which I will continue to use that gives a nice relaxed hold good for weekends or to just out through my hair for work. For evenings and times when I want my hair to really stay in place I will be using a different product".

My thoughts:

I've used this alongside my Bumble and Bumble surf spray. It's really good applying a very little amount to the ends and rubbing it in randomly. It gives a nice bit of texture to the very ends which just makes the beach look a bit more extreme.

It's a handy product to have for me and for Tony so I'm sure we will get a lot of use out of it.

What wax do your boyfriends or husbands use? Have you used this before?

My new holy grail brush cleanser

Cleaning your make up brushes is one of those things that none of us enjoy doing (lets face it, it's a little tedious). Having said this I've found a product that makes it an easier job that I find to actually be enjoyable because of how great this product is. In the past I'd used the Mac brush cleanser which is really good, but was on the look out for a cheaper alternative.

I'd seen the bottles of Dr Bronner soap is TKMaxx for a while and in the end got one to just have in the house, as the label states that it's 18 in 1 so thought it would come in handy for something. Having used any shampoo I had hanging around to clean my brushes it was time for a change. I was pleasently surprised as to how well the Dr Bronner cleaned my brushes. There was no struggle and no elbow grease involved. Just a running tap, a drop of this on the end of the brush facing down and the make up just ran straight out. I like to give the end of the bristles a little massage whilst under the running tap as it helps the product break down the make up. I have only tried this scent which smells divine but am now hooked using this as my brush cleaner.

It really is worth it and isn't something that will break the bank (not too sure how much I paid for this). I'm not even half way through this bottle and am already thinking about stocking up whenever I see them in TKMaxx. The packaging is quite nice too and looks pretty smart and tidy standing on the side of the bath or the sink.

What do you use as your brush cleaner? Have you used this?

Nike X Liberty Collection

Waking up to an email from Office regarding a Nike collaboration with Liberty of London instantly made it a good day. Having been a fan of the Liberty prints and also Nike trainers I quickly clicked on the press release and fell in love with a couple of pairs from the range straight away.

The range is available from the beginning of May and the styles are as follows (follow link above to the collection): Air Rift, Air Max Thea, Cortez, Air Max 90 Ultra, Tennis Classic. It's an exciting launch as you see the re-launch of the Air Rift after a 7 year hiatus and also the arrival of the very rarely seen Merlin print which was actually designed by Liberty for a silk scarf back in 1972!

Have you fallen in love? Will you be purchasing these? Any of the range will definitely add a little something different to your outfit for summer. Something nice and bright, colourful and fun.

My ultimate fabs are the Air Max 90 Ultras, so might have to save.

My favourite products from April

It's been pops of colour over at -Thats-Just-Me during April, embracing the textured hair look and re-purchasing a holy grail product. Aprils been a good beauty month!

Back tracking to what seems an awful long time ago to when I thought I didn't really like toners and didn't see the fuss, however after a while of using this twice a day I started to really enjoy using it for the results were better than others I had used (post Here). I ran out of this for around two weeks and the difference that made to my skin was mad. It felt dry, I was breaking out but those under the skin spots. As soon as I started using this again my skin went back to being nice, plump, tight and bump free.

I've been a fan of the Bumble and Bumble surf spray for a while and haven't really felt like I needed to try a different one as I felt happy with it as it did the job well. I got this sea spray in a beauty box and have been using it non stop during April and comes in handy for nights out as its perfect size for your handbag. It works well and gives a good hold in long and heavy hair, smells good and lasts for a long time.

Is this perfect for spring or what? Such a gorgeous pop of colour to the cheeks and highlight which does wonders to your skin and gives such a beautiful flush of colour. I've had this since Christmas and have already included it in a post Here. I've really enjoyed wearing this matching it with a natural make up look to give a fresh spring face which looks great with all lipsticks when applied lightly.

If you follow me on Instagram you would have noticed I'd used this for a make up look recently and am loving it. I think I am going to do a step by step picture tutorial for this red eye look. I purchased two of these and have done a post Here. This colour can be quite hard to blend sometimes but find that it depends on the brush and also the shadow that you use for the crease. It's such a pretty colour and can be worn through out the year and looks awesome with a bold eye liner.

Getting back into wearing pink and this has been one I have reached for over and over to a safe pink that is long lasting, smooth and very opaque (post Here). The applicator is great, soft, stiff so you can be really precise and in a strange way the product itself smells nice.... You can't go wrong with these and with quite a large colour range they are certainly worth a look.

I seriously can't stop singing this mascaras praises and I am hard to please when it comes to mascaras. The lasting power, the curl, the wand, the colour, everything about this product I love and can see myself using it for a long time coming (post Here). Compared to other mascaras this is predictable and you know where you are with it. This will be a re-purchase product for me!

Did you discovered a great product or re-purchase a holy grail during April? Let me know!

xoxo

My relaxing evening

I tend to have a pamper evening once a week at least. An evening where I completely chill and take no notice of time and just relax. I thought this would be a nice post for today as its a bank holiday weekend and some might need a pamper evening at the end of it.

My relaxing evening routine:

I start by choosing what sort of bath I'm going to have (bubbles, bomb) and this takes a while some times. LUSH cosmetics features in my bathtime frequently and feel I can share with you my LUSH obsession. Like a lot of bloggers and LUSH lovers I have a stash in a box and I just keep adding to it, my LUSH stash box is never empty and I seem to add to it every two weeks. Tony loves Lush products too so my stash isn't just for me.

Once the bath accompaniment has been chosen the bath running begins. Whilst this is doing its thing I pop downstairs to make a green tea which is normally Twinings Salted Caramel or Cherry Bake well **yummmmm. By the time I get back to the bath its at the perfect height and ready for ultimate relaxing bathtime.

Lighting a candle is mandatory whilst having a relaxing bubble bath and along with that I either read a book which at the moment is Sali Hughes Pretty Honest and am loving! Or I watch a bit of Netflix (totally addicted to PLL). I mostly choose the book option as I find this relaxes me the most and often have to stop reading quite soon as I get sleepy.

A good body butter is the way forward to a nice comfortable snuggly sleep and have recently been loving the Soap and Glory 'The Righteous Butter' as it makes your skin super soft, smells delicious and sinks into the skin nice and fast so your pjs aren't sticking to you as soon as you put them on.

The last step to my relaxing evening is spraying my pillow with the This Works 'Deep Sleep Pillow Spray' slipping on my eye mask and away into dream land I go.

Do you have a relaxing pamper routine? Do you have any suggestions as to things I could add?

Happy hump day!
xoxo
